WILD WISDOM TWO

Below are the themes of our previous Year Two course. For more details see the journal.

‘Christian Mysteries’

Summary of course themes:

  • Ancient Greece and The Mysteries of Eleusis
  • Early Christianities and the Marian Mysteries
  • Wild Monastics – From the Essenes to the Desert Mothers & Fathers and Celtic Monastics
  • The Loathly Lady and the Matter of Britain
  • Medieval Female Mystics and the meeting of Clare & Francis

Open to both both new students and those who have completed Year One, this Year Two course took us deeper into the Christian Mysteries from their Classical and Jewish roots, through native expression in Celtic Christianity and Arthurian Myth to the mystics of the Middle Ages.

Year Two was offered as an introductory day and 5 weekends, to facilitate a retreat experience and allow time to deepen individual and shared spiritual practice, with the option of ongoing community days and field trips.

This course took us further into ‘The Restoration of Love’ as we continued to explore the roots and unfolding of the Christian Spirituality from a radical, feminist and interspiritual perspective.

We journeyed from the roots of Cretan, Greek and Roman culture and myth and into early Jesus and Mary movements. We touched into early monasticism, from the Essenes, to the Desert Mothers and Fathers and later Celtic Christianity, and drew inspiration from the women and men of Arthurian stories and the Matter of Britain. We searched for founding Mothers of the Church to balance traditional emphasis on ‘Founding Fathers’ and grew appreciation for ‘Matristics’ and female mystics up until the Middle Ages.
